Gorey Town Twinning

Town Twinning involves networking between two or more towns in Europe who may have similar policies on issues of common interest which enables informed discussions and exchange of good practices to take place.

Gorey town is itself linked with Oban Scotland known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’. Travelling to Oban, on the west coast of Scotland, is a joy. Oban today has a resident population of 8,500 and is the unofficial capital of the West Highlands - the "Gateway to the Isles". It is no surprise to find that Oban in the 21st Century remains a magnet for travellers from all over the world. The town's present day popularity owes much to the Victorians.

Twinning is a strong link that binds two towns; therefore, the potential of the networks created by a series of town twinning links should be used for developing thematic cooperation between twinned towns.

This Programme therefore supports thematic conferences and workshops involving at least three towns, developed within the framework of town twinning. These events should be milestones for networking and should encourage the development of a long lasting, dynamic, multifaceted cooperation between twinned towns.

In October 2005 a delegation from Gorey visited Oban, and the following March (2006) Oban visited Gorey, during these exchanges the delegates explored the twinned towns and their policies.
